I have successfully distributed my own app through the app store before, but this is my first time developing an app for a client. My client is a small business and they do not have a Mac. Although I imagine this must be a somewhat common scenario, I have found very little documentation on how to distribute an app in this situation. I have developed the app and we plan to launch soon. From my research it appears that the client will need to create an Apple ID, enroll in their own Apple Developer Program under their organization name, and create a distribution certificate. However it appears that the only way to generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) is by using a Mac, which they do not have. Is the only solution for the client to provide me with his Apple ID credentials and then I can generate the CSR on my Mac and upload it to his developer account? Thanks in advance for any help.
While the Mac App Store is the safest place for users to get software for their Mac, you may choose to distribute your Mac apps in other ways. Gatekeeper on macOS helps protect users from downloading and installing malicious software by checking for a Developer ID certificate. Allow mac to open app from anywhere. On your Mac, drag the certificate file onto the Keychain Access icon or double-click the certificate file. To view the contents of the certificate before you add it, click Show Certificates in the dialog, then click OK when you’re done.
Hello,
I am trying to codesign an iPad IPA file supplied to me be an external app development agency. To carry out the app signing, I first installed the distribution cert and private key (.p12 file) in to Keychain. I also installed the intermediate WWDRCA cert and the ios_development cert. I'm using the following command from the iOS terminal to sign my app:
![]()
codesign -f -s ituneskey.p12 AppName.ipa
and the error I get is :
![]()
ituneskey.p12: no identity found
Mac App Distribution Certificate Template
My distributuon cert is valid, I have checked this in Keychain Util.

What am I doing wrong and how can I resolve this?
